What we collect

When you install and use Big Beautiful Obituary, we store a minimal set of data required to deliver the service:

  • Device token — provided by Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) so we can send you the alert.
  • Subscription status — whether your trial or subscription is active, so we know to keep sending checks.
  • Referral code (if applicable) — if you arrived via a referral link, we store the code so the referrer gets credit.

What we do NOT collect

We do not collect your name, email, phone number, location, contacts, browsing history, or any other personal information. The app does not contain analytics SDKs, advertising trackers, or third-party data brokers.

How push notifications work

We use Apple’s Critical Alert system to deliver notifications that bypass Do Not Disturb and silent mode. You explicitly grant this permission when you first open the app. You can revoke it at any time in your device’s Settings.

Data storage

Device tokens and subscription records are stored in Supabase (hosted on AWS). Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.

Third-party services

  • Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) — delivers notifications to your device.
  • Anthropic Claude API — scores news articles for relevance. Only article content (from public news sources) is sent to Claude, never your personal data.
  • Supabase — database hosting for device tokens and article data.

Deleting your data

Delete the app from your device. When Apple’s push notification service reports your device token as invalid (which happens automatically after uninstall), we remove it from our database. No further action is required.
